Wheel Alignment

USING STATE OF THE ART HOFMANN WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING EQUIPMENT

Wheel alignments on a vehicle will greatly improve its performance. If you must make a fast turn or dodge something quickly that’s on the road, a wheel alignment could be the very thing that saves your life.

Wheel Alignment and Balancing

WHAT IS WHEEL ALIGNMENT?

Wheel alignment, sometimes referred to as tracking, is a vehicle maintenance service that involves correcting the angles of the wheels so that they are accurately re-set to the original manufactures specification to ensure even tyre wear and improved handling.

Driving over potholes, speed bumps or kerbs can knock your wheel alignment out. This can lead to uneven wear on your tyres and it could feel like your car is ‘pulling’ to one side. This in turn can lead to an increase in fuel consumption and premature wear on your tyres.

Correct wheel alignment ensures that the tyres are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other so that on a level and straight road your car will travel in a straight line. Wheel alignment or tracking is one of the key tyre maintenance factors to ensure optimum performance, even tyre wear, and a maximised tyre life.

An accurate alignment also provides safe and predictable vehicle control and road holding alongside a smoother and more comfortable ride. We offer computerised wheel alignment, 2-wheel front axle adjustment and 4-wheel front and rear axle adjustment.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

Does your vehicle pull to one side? Does the steering wheel vibrate? Do you have to move the steering wheel constantly to keep in a straight line? The cure...

The chances are if your car has any of these symptoms your alignment may be badly adjusted. These problems will normally be corrected by checking and realigning the wheels.

  • Worn Tire Treads – The most visually obvious symptom of a bad wheel alignment is when the treads of your tires start to become worn. Instead of having all those grooves and patterns to them, your treads will look like completely flat rubber. Unless your tires are several years old, worn treads are an indication that you have a wheel alignment problem. Do not let this problem go unfixed for too long because it will impair your driving ability.
  • Pulling to the Left or Right – There is a simple test that you can perform to see if your wheels are misaligned. Just find a straight flat road to drive on with no one around. Center the steering wheel and then let go of it while the vehicle is in motion. The car should continue to drive straight if the wheels are aligned. But if the car swerves too much to the left or right, this means the wheels are not aligned properly.
  • Vibrating Steering Wheel – Wheel alignment is supposed to create a smooth driving experience. You should not feel any vibrations coming from the steering wheel if you have good wheel alignment. Therefore, if you do feel vibrations coming from the steering wheel, then it means you don’t have good wheel alignment. These vibrations might not seem like any big deal, but they are. Think of them as an early warning sign to get your wheels aligned before the symptoms progress into something much worse.
  • Tire Squealing – As your tire treads continue to get worn out from a bad wheel alignment, you will notice your tires squealing a lot more. You will hear them squeal as you step on the accelerator pedal and when you go to make turns. The worse your that treads get, the louder the squealing will be.
  • Steering Hesitation – You will experience all kinds of issues with the steering wheel if you have a bad wheel alignment. The biggest issue will be a hesitation in the steering as you go to turn the wheel. For instance, you will rotate the steering wheel to make a turn, but the vehicle won’t make that turn immediately. It may take a couple of seconds for the turn to actually occur. This is a serious wheel alignment issue that must be addressed as soon as possible or else it will likely cause an accident.
